GSAR Advisory Committee Discussion

The future of SAR policy in B.C.

We invite you to join in the discussion on this critical topic which will affect search and rescue in the province for many years to come. To support our discussion, we recently provided a short survey to gather your experience with the process of EMCR and BCSARA creating the new GSAR Advisory Committee. Download the full survey results

Background

EMCR created the new GSAR Advisory Committee to facilitate future GSAR policy and program discussion. EMCR and BCSARA are currently negotiating the terms of reference for this new committee.

BCSARA's townhall slides and a FAQs provide some information about the proposed structure which includes:

  • EMCR and requesting agency representation
  • Six GSAR subject matter experts representing the GSAR community
  • Minimal BCSARA involvement
  • Working groups are moved under the control of the advisory committee (health and safety, training, policy/regulations, technical rescue, air support)
